I'm a young Australian looking to travel overseas in 2021. What are my chances?
Young Australians probably won’t get to travel overseas until 2021 under a leaked Federal Government vaccination plan
Older Australians will receive the COVID-19 vaccine first in a staged process that means young Australians probably won’t be able to travel internationally until 2022, according to leaked plans published in the Herald Sun today.
According to the plans, first in line would be people over 70 and others at risk.
The ‘at risk’ category includes those with health conditions making them vulnerable to COVID-19, as well as Indigenous Australians.
Second in line would be workers with an increased risk of catching the virus.
That is: healthcare workers, aged care workers, group residential care workers, disability care workers, those employed at correctional and detention facilities, meat processing plant workers, emergency services workers, defence forces and those working at quarantine facilities.
Third in line would be everyone else - from oldest to youngest.
The leaked details suggest Australians would be vaccinated in five-year increments, with those under 18 likely not being vaccinated until 2022. For those under 30, expect not to travel overseas until at least the end of 2021.
