On Monday, thousands will march in Australian cities against sexism
It is expected thousands of people will gather outside Canberra’s Parliament House - and 35 other locations around the country - to protest the Federal Government's handling of recent rape allegations.
A quick reminder of how we got here:
Last month, former Liberal staffer Brittany Higgins claimed a male colleague raped her in a Minister's office after hours, and criticised her party's response.
Last week, Attorney-General Christian Porter revealed himself to be the Minister alleged to have raped a debating teammate in 1988, when he was 17. He denies the claim.
Protest organiser Janine Hendry said she decided to arrange the rallies after feeling let down by the Federal Government's response to the alleged rape of staffer Brittany Higgins and its response to the more recent rape allegation against Christian Porter.
"I feel like every woman has a story. Whether it's workplace harassment, or abuse in the home, or on the street, even... I feel like it's a time of reckoning for Australia." Janine Hendry to Guardian Australia on Wednesday
MARCH4Justice's Demands include:
Independent investigations into all cases of gendered violence in Parliament
Mandatory sexual harassment training for MPs and their staff
A new federal Gender Equality Act
More funding for gendered violence prevention
Equal representation in Parliament by 2030
Other rally locations include Wagga Wagga, Albury-Wodonga, Woollongong, Cairns, Darwin, Armidale, Newcastle and Townsville.
Organisers wants protesters to wear all-black and bring a black face mask with #enough written on it.
"This moment is a reckoning well beyond the Christian Porter or Higgins allegations. While ending gendered violence in Canberra might be the catalyst, women are taking to the streets because of a toxic culture of everyday sexism in law making and budget setting, which is an assault on all women's lives. This is just the beginning."
Tanja Kovac, CEO of Gender Equality Victoria, in The Sydney Morning Herald on Wednesday.
